I just got an email telling me that blog.co.uk misses me, which is awfully nice for an automated email robot to say, and I realised I haven't signed onto this site for quite a while now, so I thought it was about time I started up again. If anyone actually does read these things then I apologise for not doing one in a while. I have had a lot on my mind recently and have basically just been trying to get on with things. I haven't really had the urge to write anything on here regarding news or public events but I have been writing a lot. In amidst looking for a job I have also been occupying my time with writing a graphic novel/comic book series. I don't know how many people on here are interested in that sort of thing, but needless to say they aren't ALL about superman. I don't want to give anything away about it but I'm pretty proud of what I have so far.
In other news, it was Valentines Day the other day. Without going too deep into my personal life, Valentines Day has never been a holiday I have particularly enjoyed however this year I really did. Its the first time I have actually been with anyone during it and it really does change your perspective on things. I cant say I now agree with the point of Valentines Day though. I still consider it a shameless made up holiday to keep card shops in business this time of year...but so do a lot of people. Common knowledge I suppose.
I thought for this particular blog (and seeing as I haven't been on here for a while) I would do something different, so I have decided to do a review of some kind.
2 days ago me and my girlfriend went to Bromley Theatre and saw “Little Shop of Horrors” and I have to say it is amazing. Going to see musicals at the theatre isn't exactly a regular event for me so it made a good change from the sticky floors of the cinema. Unfortunately, it was one of the last showings so you wont get a chance to see it for a while but I really do expect its going to make it to the west end. If you have seen the film you will know what to expect. Although it lacks the insanely good animatronics puppet master Jim Henson brought to the movie version, the stage version of Audrey 2 (the demonic blood thirsty plant) is still really impressive. As the show progresses, so does the size of the plant and although its mouth movements can sometimes be a bit off its still a huge intimidating plant. The songs are naturally great so I wont go too much into them, but they will be stuck in your head for hours afterward. “FEED ME!” Also the performances are flawless. I don't know if the actors were actually American or not but if they weren't, their accents are amazing. Another feature that has to been seen to be believed is the set design. Its ridiculously clever. Like a lot of stage shows its as simple as it needs to be. There are only 3 main set pieces. An outside area (the streets of “Skid Row”) the inside of the flower shop and the inside of the demented, gas addicted dentist's office. The dentist character is one to look out for. An amazing performance that matches up to (if not slightly beats) Steve Martin's in the movie version. Guaranteed to traumatise your children. One downside was I forgot my glasses, so if you want a detailed description of what the actors actually looked like I'm afraid I can't help you.
If the show does go to London I really suggest you make a day of it and see it. You wont regret it. I don't go to the theatre often. The only other musical I have seen live is “We will Rock You” so I'm not exactly the best qualified to review them. But if an uncultured fiend like myself can enjoy it, so can you!
Hopefully I will have a few more blogs coming your way in the future. I will try harder to make it a regular thing again.
